Olga Gabrielle, born in 1985, is a native of Aruba, a Leeward island in the Caribbean Sea, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a monarchy ruled by King Willem-Alexander of the Royal House of Orange-Nassau. She is a multidisciplinary artist who explores the human condition, cultural heritage, and the - [Exhibit e tera di ananse](https://olgagabrielle.com/exhibit-e-tera-di-ananse/): E tera di ananse E TERA DI ANANSE is a multidisciplinary exhibit presented at Aruba National Library that bridges past and present, using the mythical figure of ANANSE to explore themes of resilience, survival, and community At its heart is the notion of cultural survival and transformation. “Ananse”, whose stories have transcended generations, represents the creative intelligence and perseverance of the African diaspora. These tales, brought to the Caribbean through the forced migration of enslaved people, served as both a means of cultural preservation and a subtle form of resistance against colonial power. Through evocative movement and ritual gesture, he embarks on a transformative journey, peeling away layers of inherited constraint to reveal a state of liberation and renewal. As the rhythm pulses in the background, the dancer channels both resistance and reverence, weaving together the sacred and the celebratory. This visual narrative becomes a conduit for healing, where memory - [Transiting](https://olgagabrielle.com/transiting/): Transiting “Terra Incognita” / Site Specific Performance / 2017-2019“Terra Incognita (2015-19) is a site-specific performance documented through photography, where Gabrielle engages in dialogue with the landscape through movements of her body. This interaction is an act of introspection where the artist reflects on the boundaries within the self. It is also a reflection of how fictional geographic boundaries around unknown territories, seen as unclaimed territories, were transgressed by Europe’s desire for expansion.   The title references a term in cartography for unknown territories during Europe’s Age of Discovery (roughly between the 15th and 18th centuries). Mapping out the places that - [E Tera di Nanzi](https://olgagabrielle.com/e-tera-di-nanzi/): E Tera di Nanzi E Tera di Nanzi(2023) / Video, black and white, sound, 3:00 min In this minimalist video, Olga Gabrielle walks barefoot across Aruba’s desert shore as her voice recites a childhood Nanzi folktale. The camera focuses solely on her feet and the land, turning movement into a quiet act of reclamation. Rooted in oral tradition and ancestral memory, terra incognita explores identity, territory, and the power of storytelling as resistance. - [Aruba Dushi Tera](https://olgagabrielle.com/aruba-dushi-tera/): Aruba Dushi Tera Aruba Dushi Tera an art experience, August 10th, 2023, at Museo Arqueologico Nacional Aruba. Aruba Sweet Land is an ode to the territory, people, stories, and layered histories of Aruba. This exhibition is inspired by a deep connection to the island—its landscape, rhythms, and cultural memory. It presents a fabricated landscape where art and multi-sensorial experiences come together. Through a thoughtful integration of everyday objects from Aruban life, oral histories, myth-based explorations, and video art, the exhibition invites viewers into an immersive space that reflects on both the tangible and intangible dimensions of the Aruban experience. This piece is a collaboration with poetry from Cuban artist, Adonis Ferro. In Rectangulo, Olga Gabrielle confronts us with highly contrasting elements in the natural landscape. The unmoving limitations and solidity of the basalt rock formations juxtaposed with the anonymous human form seeking to find its place by moving within this rigid environment. She explores the relationships between landscape and existence, ritualization and embodiment, - [Corpus](https://olgagabrielle.com/corpus/): CORPUS For Olga Gabrielle, ‘space’ is a medium as important as ‘the body’. In Corpus Uncollectible, the space of the performance is not only a stage for a series of actions and sounds. Here, space is also the binder that intertwines the experience of the spectator and the artist. Recognizing that space is far from being a passive element, Gabrielle questions its integrity through elements such as mirrors that expose the malleability of how we experience space. - [Sotavento](https://olgagabrielle.com/sotavento/): Sotavento Video Art / Duration: 3:00 min. / 2020 Olga Gabrielle often starts the concept of her works from dreams. In Sotavento the artist presents the landscape as a fragment of reality and reveals its condition as a cultural construction. The work references the changes to the Caribbean landscape as a result of the colonization of the land. These changes caused by occupational interventions to the land also disrupted these people’s self-perceptions of identity. The title of the work is borrowed from the nautical term for the direction of the winds.
